Bachellor of Music with Honours in Composition graduated from CENTRO DE INVESTIGACIÓN Y ESTUDIOS DE LA MÚSICA, CIEM. MX. Made his professional studies under the tutelage of Víctor Rasgado and María Antonieta Lozano.

As part of his formation he attended to courses, master classes and workshops leaded by prestigious musicians on the international scene as Marlos Nobre (BR), Theo Loevendie (NL), Mario Davidovsky (AR), Irvine Arditti (UK), Stefano Scodanibbio (IT), Harry Sparnaay (NL) and Andrés Lewin-Richter (ES).

 

VALDEZ HERMOSO's creative work has been recognized through several awards and distinctions among are included the "IBERMÚSICAS Symphonic Composition Prize 2023", awarded by the SECRETARÍA GENERAL IBEROAMERICANA (SEGIB), as well as the "IBERMÚSICAS Grant for Composers" 2014 - 2015, and 2018 - 2019”, awarded by the same institution. He has been selected by contest as "Artist in Residence" by the VENEZUELAN MINISTRY OF CULTURE in 2006, by the COLOMBIAN MINISTRY OF CULTURE in 2009 and by the CONSEIL DES ARTS ET DES LETTRES DU QUEBEC in 2013. Similarly, he was the winner of the "National Prize for Choral Composition 2005", granted by the SISTEMA NACIONAL DE FOMENTO MUSICAL (SNFM-CONACULTA), as well as awarded with the “S.R. National Prize for the Youth in Arts 2004", highest honor for citizens under the age of 30 bestowed by THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OF MEXICO. He earned the grant “Jóvenes Creadores 2004-2005”, awarded by the FONDO NACIONAL PARA LA CULTURA Y LAS ARTES (FONCA-CONACULTA), the "Selection" and “Recomendation” in the 5th Mexican Rostrum of Composers, hosted by the MEXICAN COUNCIL OF MUSIC (COMUS-MEXICO), as well as the “Honorable Mention” in the composition contest “Las Músicas Dormidas”, organized by THE STATE GOVERNMENT OF OAXACA, Instrumenta OAXACA and the OLGA AND RUFINO TAMAYO FOUNDATION. In 2005 VALDEZ HERMOSO was appointed “Mexican Delegate” and his Music represented México during the 52° International Rostrum of Composers, convened by the UNESCO's INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COUNCIL. By 2009 he was distinguished as “Guest Composer” by the NATIONAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA OF COLOMBIA, and in 2015 and 2019 by the UNIVERSITY OF THE ANDES CHOIR, Bogotá-Colombia.       Since 2016 VALDEZ HERMOSO is a Fellow of the SISTEMA NACIONAL DE CREADORES DE ARTE, of the FONDO NACIONAL PARA LA CULTURA Y LAS ARTES (SNCA - FONCA), the most prestigious grant awarded by THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OF MEXICO in order to support the creation of fine arts.

Among the ensembles and orchestras that have premiered or commissioned his works are included the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia, National Philharmonic Orchestra of Venezuela, Symphony Orchestra of Falcón (VE), UNAM Philharmonic Orchestra (MX), State Symphony Orchestra of Puebla (MX), 5 de Mayo Philharmonic Orchestra (MX), Bellas Artes Chamber Orchestra (MX), Arditti String Quartet and Jake Arditti (UK), CEPROMUSIC (MX), Quatuor Molinari (CA), Arabesque Winds Ensemble (US), Wapiti Ensemble (CA), Ensemble Vertebræ (FR), Ensamble Taller Sonoro (ES), Het Trio (NL), José White String Quartet (CU-MX), Arcano String Quartet (MX), The University of the Andes Choir (CO), Signos Ensemble (AR-MX), Ensamble de la Academia Cervantina (MX), Woodwind Quintet of Mexico City and Tuúmben Paax Ensemble (MX).

Along with his creative work, RODRIGO VALDEZ HERMOSO is a Professor of Composition at CENTRO DE INVESTIGACIÓN Y ESTUDIOS DE LA MÚSICA, CIEM, as well as full-time Professor, Tutor and Researcher at the IEMS / CDMX. He has been invited to give workshops, master classes and conferences by universities and conservatories in Latin America and Canada.

-When I invited him to present his scores and works to composition students at the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal, I could measure the musicianship and professionalism of his realisations and, on many levels, the originality of his music. Economy of means, formal efficiency, even a certain degree of “distanciation”, struck me (and my students) at first hearing. The same feeling appeared when I listened to his last String Quartet RED over WHITE.-

El trabajo creativo de VALDEZ HERMOSO ha sido reconocido mediante diversos premios y distinciones entre las que se encuentran el "Premio Ibermúsicas de Composición de Obra Sinfónica 2023", otorgado por la SECRETARÍA GENERAL IBEROAMERICANA (SEGIB) y los Ministerios de Cultura de los países que integran el Programa de Fomento de las Músicas Iberoamericanas; así como la “Subvención para Compositores IBERMÚSICAS" 2014-2015, y 2018-2019, (SEGIB). Ha sido seleccionado mediante concurso como “Residente Artístico” del CONSEJO NACIONAL DE LA CULTURA DE VENEZUELA (CONAC) en 2006, del MINISTERIO DE CULTURA DE COLOMBIA (MINCULTURA) en 2009 y del CONSEIL DES ARTS ET DES LETTRES DU QUEBEC (CALQ) en 2013. De igual manera, ha sido galardonado con el “Premio Nacional de Composición Coral 2005”, otorgado por el SISTEMA NACIONAL DE FOMENTO MUSICAL (SNFM-CONACULTA), así como con el “R.E. Premio Nacional de la Juventud en Artes 2004”, otorgado por el GOBIERNO FEDERAL DE LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS, la SECRETARIA DE EDUCACIÓN PÚBLICA (SEP) y el INSTITUTO MEXICANO DE LA JUVENTUD (IMJUVE). Obtuvo la beca “Jóvenes Creadores 2004-2005”, otorgada por el FONDO NACIONAL PARA LA CULTURA Y LAS ARTES (FONCA-CONACULTA), la “Recomendación” y “Selección” en la 5ta Tribuna de la Música Mexicana del CONSEJO DE LA MÚSICA EN MÉXICO (COMUS-MEXICO), así como la “Mención de Honor” en el concurso de composición “Las Músicas Dormidas”, organizado por el GOBIERNO DEL ESTADO DE OAXACA, Instrumenta OAXACA y la FUNDACIÓN OLGA Y RUFINO TAMAYO. En 2005 fue designado “Delegado Mexicano” y su música representó a México durante la 52° Tribuna Internacional de Compositores, organizada por el CONSEJO INTERNACIONAL DE LA MÚSICA DE LA UNESCO en Viena, Austria. En 2009 fue distinguido como “Compositor Huésped” de la ORQUESTA SINFÓNICA NACIONAL DE COLOMBIA, y en 2015 y 2019 por el CORO DE LA UNIVERSIDAD DE LOS ANDES en Bogotá, Colombia. Desde 2016, VALDEZ HERMOSO es Miembro del SISTEMA NACIONAL DE CREADORES DE ARTE, del FONDO NACIONAL PARA LA CULTURA Y LAS ARTES (SNCA - FONCA). El SNCA es la subvención de mayor prestigio otorgada por el GOBIERNO FEDERAL DE LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS, destinada a la creación artística de excelencia.
 

Entre los ensambles y orquestas que le han comisionado o estrenado obra se encuentran la Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia, Orquesta Filarmónica Nacional de Venezuela, Orquesta Sinfónica de Falcón (VE), Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM (MX), Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de Puebla (MX), Orquesta Filarmónica 5 de Mayo (MX), Orquesta de Cámara de Bellas Artes (MX), Arditti String Quartet y Jake Arditti (UK), CEPROMUSIC (MX), Quatuor Molinari (CA), Arabesque Winds Ensamble (US), Wapiti Ensamble (CA), Ensemble Vertebræ (FR), Ensamble Taller Sonoro (ES), Het Trio (NL), Coro de la Universidad de los Andes (CO), Signos Ensamble (AR), Cuarteto José White (CU-MX), Cuarteto Arcano (MX), Ensamble de la Academia Cervantina (MX), Sexteto Vocal Túumben Paax (MX) y el Quinteto de Alientos de la Ciudad de México por mencionar algunos.

A la par de su trabajo creativo RODRIGO VALDEZ HERMOSO se desempeña como Profesor Titular en la Cátedra de Composición en el CENTRO DE INVESTIGACIÓN Y ESTUDIOS DE LA MÚSICA, CIEM, y como Docente, Tutor e Investigador de tiempo completo en el IEMS, CDMX. Es regularmente invitado a impartir cursos, talleres y conferencias en diversas universidades y conservatorios de América.

- Sobre la Anti-HEROICA: "Creo que Rodrigo Valdez Hermoso quiso recrear la idea de lo que es escuchar algo por primera vez. Recibir algo totalmente nuevo, totalmente distinto a lo que tenemos la costumbre de escuchar, y entonces esta pieza es realmente muy nueva" -

- Cuando lo invité a mostrar sus obras a los estudiantes de composición en el Conservatorio de Música de Montreal,
pude medir la musicalidad y el profesionalismo de sus realizaciones y, en muchos niveles la originalidad de su Música. Economía de recursos, eficiencia formal, incluso un cierto grado de "distanciamiento", quedé (al igual que mis estudiantes) atrapado a primera escucha. La misma sensación apareció cuando escuché su nuevo cuarteto para cuerdas (RED over WHITE). -
